Reclaiming Ashes

Remember O man
that that art dust and unto
dust shalt thou return.

Remember O man
that that art dust and unto
dust shalt thou return.

Remember O man
that that art dust and unto
dust shalt thou return.

This echo of daunting words
Bounces through a hallowed mind
Reminder of things once learned
Of lessons heavy with meaning
Set aside for a moment
For a day.

Press the swell and release the stops
Breathe full and deep
Count to six and begin the cry
Let each sound carry tenor beyond
Words alone.

Raise the voice in grief and joy
Measure the import
Of meter of rhyme
Hold it close
Set it free.

Seek out the broken thing
Bind the old wood
With new thought
Preserve old ways
Deny not the promise.

Remember this mark
Though scrubbed clean
Remains light bound
Number the many
Carry the burden till journeys end
Rejoice and renew.

Smudge of Alpha
Bright light of Omega
Roll back the stone
Find the tomb wanting
Let these words answer
Questions unspoken.
